Sweetooth, 2001 Screenprint and acrylic on board 60'' x 40" |
This family of faces imagines what the classic characters of English comic book fame might look like if they were not locked in the permanently pre-pubescent state that they are always drawn in but had been allowed to mature and had become the age they would be (in 2003?) if we took literally their date of birth as their published debut in print. Within this scenario of re-humanified ageing, their images are used as a vehicle to instigate the effects that external ‘real life’, influences and attitudes may have on their physiology and the development of their personalities and original character traits when exposed to pressures of contemporary Britain. |
