Bobby,  2002

Lambda print

40'' x 50"

What has happened to John Bull, the figurative symbolic embodiment of British patriotism? Why has he disappeared from contemporary national consciousness? In these portraits Bull is re-imagined as a series of motifs exaggerating and subverting the clichéd and stereotypical images involved in notions of national identity and its related constructs.

The resulting characters act as a reposition for various aspects and attitudes of patriotism often focusing on negative characters of nationalism including racial ignorance, flamed empirical, superiority, spiritual corruption, tribal allegiances, hooliganism and crude jingoism.
