Lookalike father, lookalike son, 2001 Pencil Crayon on paper 84'' x 34" |
Originally rooted in observational drawings in and around the East End of London, this larger than life full-length pencil crayon composite portraits explain the ways in which people have absorbed some of the characteristics, attributes and styles of popular tabloid celebrity figures. They depict how these absorptions and emulations (both accidentally and self-consciously) are externalized and what this reveals about the individuals alliegens, aspirations and interests, as well as the faddish locally iconic obsessions generated by certain idiosyncratic and locally iconic media personalities whose imagery and appearances posses a “flavour of the month” resonance. |
